Belizean Flags And Flagpoles

... or go back

Belize was formerly known as British Honduras and flew the usual colonial flags from flagpoles of all kinds, including the more common residential flagpoles, until independence was granted on September 21, 1981. In addition, however, Belize used an unofficial national flag following the attainment of self-government back in 1964. This flag was colored blue and displayed the national coat of arms on a central white disk.

Historical flags of all kinds that are still used for purposes of representation and such for countries of all kinds. British Honduras was given a coat of arms some one hundred years ago, in 1907. This coat of arms became the basis of a badge that is featured on British ensigns.

The national flag of Belize displays a few different colors, and not including the coat of arms, they are blue and red. The white disc in the middle of the flag features the coat of arms. It is held by a white and a black male and is surrounded by 50 so-called "mahogany" leaves. The flag's field is blue and is bordered at the top and the bottom by red colored bands that are relative small in width.

Belize is a popular holiday destination to people around the world. It is a constitutional monarchy that is located in the most northern part of Middle America. A little bit of a surprising fact is that the official language spoken is English. However, Spanish and Kriol are languages that are spoken in this monarchy as well. Only two other countries border this beautiful territory and they are Guatemala and Mexico.

Since independence was granted to Belize, the national flag of the country has been modified. Red, the color used by a political party in this country, was added in 1981 to both the top and bottom of this national flag. In comparison to all other historical international flags attached to modern day residential flagpoles out there, this banner is considered very unique as it uses the most colors.

Those of you interested in flying international flags of other countries, considered or better said, make sure to follow the instructions that are presented in the flag code of the country you reside in. Very often, your country of residence's flag should be hoisted on residential flagpoles above other country banners and flags.
